Daku Island is one of the absolute jewels of the Philippines Siargao Islands area. With crystal clear water that seems to emit it's own emerald/cyan glow as it ebbs over it's pure white sandy areas. And at the surfing breaks, waves that sometimes look like glowing glass peashooters. Seeming all the more electrical on an evening boat ride, where plankton flies like white hot sparks thru the water in trails from the bow and outriggers.
It's history is hard to pin down. Officially it wasn't inhabited until well after WW2, however I've seen bones in a cave that are much older than any supposed WW2 remains I've come across. Also you might be able to get one of the residents to show you the cave used by an American spotter team during that war. With many small openings begging to be explored to their potential all over the island, some open up into stalactite decorated rooms of truly impressive size.
Peaceful and quiet, with only the sounds of nature and those you make yourself surrounding you,
